The soaring sales of English sparkling wine has put the tipple at the head of the race to be named one of the top trends for 2018.
Alternative French regions such as Anjou and Saumur in the Loire, as well as more premium wine from Languedoc Roussillon both, featured prominently in a new report from on-trade suppliers Bibendum on what’s going to be big next year.
English sparkling also features, following reports from Bibendum that sales have nearly doubled over the past year.
Joseph Arthur, fine wine business development executive at the supplier, said they had seen a significant change in 2017, from “getting the word out to consumers” to customers proactively asking for English wine. Other key trends include spirits with provenance, including craft vodka and also Tequila and Mezcal with consumers move towards premium serves and cocktails.
