Sales of homegrown red and rosé wine on the rise
To mark English Wine Week (19th – 27th June), Waitrose are launching a brand new mixed wine case on Waitrose Cellar to celebrate the very best of English wine. Launching on the 2nd June, the case (£90) includes six English wines – a rosé , two whites, two reds and a fizz.
Xenia Ruscombe-King MW, Waitrose Cellar buyer, says: ‘We’ve always been proud to champion English wine and this case brings together some of the most exciting wines from around the country. We’ve chosen a mix of styles and grapes to ensure we represent the wide scope of winemaking talent in England and I know our customers will love it!’
In 2020, English sparkling wine sales increased by 52% year on year at Waitrose, as customers invested in more premium fizz to drink at home during lockdown. Sales of English red and rosé wine also grew last year, up 15% and 10% respectively, as winemakers make huge strides in both quality and availability. This was even more strongly reflected sales of local* reds and rosés, with sales up 54% and 14% respectively.
The English Wine Week case offer includes:
