PRESS RELEASE

Black Chalk Wine announced as Portsmouth Seafood Festival headline sponsor

Black Chalk Wine has been announced as the headline sponsor for Portsmouth Seafood Festival 2018, which is returning to Gunwharf Quays and Marina on June 30 and July 1. Following the phenomenal success of 2017’s opening event, the festival is set to tantalise and inspire via an even bigger and better line up.

Celebrating the city’s seafood and fishing heritage, this free event, hosted by Gunwharf Quays (Landsec) is unique in that it delivers 100 per cent seafood vendor content in its programme.

Black Chalk, initially comprising Black Chalk Classic and Black Chalk Wild Rose, is a personal project from award-winning winemaker Jacob Leadley, which has been nine years in the making. The wines – which both launch with the 2015 vintage – are made from grapes sourced from Hampshire’s best vineyards and have an unusually high proportion of Pinot Meunier – a variety which has a natural affinity with the county’s chalklands. The wines are available from www.blackchalkwine.co.uk.

Andrew Seden, Director of Black Chalk Wine says, “Black Chalk are thrilled to be headline sponsors at this year’s festival. Last year saw 70,000 people in attendance, learning about seafood, tasting unique creations and generally having a great time! We know there is a real appetite for locally-sourced food and drink amongst visitors, and we can’t wait to show them our beautifully crafted Black Chalk wines.”

Co-founding partner, Festival organiser and spokesman, John Pryde, said: “Portsmouth Seafood Festival 2018 is a festival for everyone, you can enjoy the finest seafood produce and engage with other sea-foodies.

“We have hand-picked our seafood vendors and traders based on their expertise or specialism. These are people who are passionate about seafood, whether they fish for it, prepare or package it, or teach purchasers how to cook it.”
