Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs Vertical Tasting for English Wine Week
Saturday, 19th June 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm£55
English Wine Week is back for another year and as proud members of Wines of Great Britain, the Wine School of Cheshire is always excited to tale part!
One of several events for 2021, join us for a unique vertical tasting of The Gusbourne Estate’s flagship sparkling wine, Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs.
What is a vertical tasting? Rarely heard of, a vertical tasting event is the comparison of several vintages of the same wine, from the same producer. Starting with the youngest available vintage – the latest release – this is an incredible opportunity to understand how a wine ages in bottle and continues to develop its flavour and, in most cases, its value too. We’ll be starting with Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016 and then tasting 2015, 2014 and 2013 and guests will enjoy a glass of each. There are very few older vintages of Gusbourne wines available and we are thrilled to have secured these to share for English Wine Week 2021.
The original Gusbourne Estate in Appledore, Kent dates back to 1410. In 2004, Andrew Weeber took over the estate with a clear vision and a single goal: to create English sparkling wines that would stand up alongside the very finest offerings from across the globe.
The first vines were planted that year. In 2010 the debut vintages of Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2006 and Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2006 were released to critical acclaim. Gusbourne quickly earned a reputation as a producer of outstanding quality wines, with accolades from some of the industry’s most exacting critics.
Winemaker Charlie Holland honed his skills in Australia, Germany, New Zealand and the USA before taking the helm at Gusbourne. With numerous international awards to his name, Charlie has produced some of the most celebrated sparkling wines in the UK and beyond.
Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs typifies the linear purity of this classic style. Charlie and his team select their finest lots of Chardonnay that exhibit natural minerality, ensuring that the wine has both finesse and elegance as well as the requisite qualities for extended ageing.
Join us in The Tasting Room in Godstall Lane: our very own home of all things wine in the heart of Chester city centre, just moments from Chester Cathedral and The Rows. We’ll enjoy the 2016 vintage as an aperitif and there are sharing boards to enjoy with the next three glasses of wine.
