There are many benefits to joining WineGB:

  • It is the first point of reference for information about grape growing and winemaking in the UK
  • It provides support and training for growers and wine producers, from planting, vine care and winemaking to business and marketing
  • It brings the industry together through competitions and events and forums for sharing information and accessing expertise
  • It works with the UK government, its agencies, and the EU, to represent members’ interests and lobbies on their behalf to ensure fair legislation and regulation
  • Is the guardian of the quality standards and the protected names of English wine and Welsh wine, through the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI) and Varietal Wine Certification Schemes
  • Is responsible for the availability and safe approval of plant protection products used on grapes for wine production in the UK. WineGB publishes a list of approved products along with regularly-updated guidance on safe and legal plant protection
  • It promotes research and development into viticulture and winemaking in the UK
  • It aims to protect the long-term reputation and success of the English and Welsh wine industry
  • It initiates coordinated generic marketing activities for English and Welsh wine and secures marketing advice, guidance and opportunities for its members.

  • The ‘Grape Press’ – the WineGB magazine with wine industry news, technical reports, and updates to legislation. It includes a Commercial Directory listing of winemakers, consultants and other service providers
  • The ‘Green Book’ – an annual publication listing pesticides approved for use in vineyards, and guidance for members to spray effectively and legally
  • Access to the Members’ Area of the website with important regulatory, legal and other advice. Also guidance on planning, obtaining grants and funding, details of campaigns, and other useful information
  • Access to the email forum – a closed forum for members to exchange information and discuss issues relating to grape growing and winemaking
  • Entrance to the national competition the ‘WineGB Awards’ for commercial growers. This is the UK wine industry ‘Oscars’ and awards are presented at a prestigious lunch each year

Becoming a member of WineGB

 

WineGB is made up of seven Regional Vineyard Associations who play a very important role in the structure of the industry. On joining WineGB you also become a member of your geographic region. You are welcome to join another region also.

The membership subscription to both WineGB and your Regional Association is managed centrally. Please contact office@winegb.co.uk.
