The annual WineGB Awards showcases one of the world’s most exciting wine regions, and the calibre of judges and competition partners make this a major competition for WineGB members. The winning results are widely broadcast through extensive PR and social media. The judges are a glittering line up of wine luminaries carefully chosen to represent different spheres of the wine world. Each has extensive experience in competition judging and professional knowledge of English and Welsh wines. All the wines are judged to international standards of marking.

Due to COVID-19, changes to the competition were made this year to ensure that we ran our competition judging safely:

Our judging panel consisted of three amazing judges Susie Barrie MW, Oz Clarke OBE and Rebecca Palmer (Wine Buyer Corney & Barrow).

  • We limited the number of wines to enable enough time over the judging period for the panel to discuss each wine. In the end 281 wines were tasted by all three judges over five days
  • The judging took place in a safe environment, thanks to Ashling Park Wine Estate in West Sussex
  • All safety measures were introduced such as safely distanced tasting tables, sneeze screens, full cleaning at the end of each day

In place of the annual Awards ceremony which is attended by wine producers, sponsors, trade and press, WineGB’s industry celebration has become a virtual event, to be aired at noon on Tuesday 8 September.
