Chancery Lane, London Cru’s first Chardonnay is available to pre-order this week to celebrate English Wine Week (26th May – 3rd June).
The grapes, hand selected from a vineyard in West Sussex, were produced in Fulham by winemaker, Agustín González Novoa. Working in both the UK and Germany, his experience with cool climate wines is exemplified in this vintage. Agustín said: “Chancery Lane is a wonderful expression of this country’s cool climate. English Chardonnay is similar to Chablis, but with its own distinct English characteristics of crisp apples and pear drops.”
Using English grapes to produce Chardonnay is a departure for London Cru. Grapes from Limoux, France were used for the last three vintages. London Cru founder, Cliff Roberson, said “How many places in the world have made a French and English Chardonnay in the same winery. We have, and we believe there is real potential for this grape in the UK beyond sparkling wine. We just need to familiarise ourselves with its distinct characteristics and possibilities.”
London Cru’s Chancery Lane, will retail at £18 (on offer at £14.99 during English Wine Week only) and will be available to pre-order on the Roberson Wine website from Tuesday 29th May.
