A group of leading English producers showed their commitment to export by welcoming influential members of the US wine trade last week for a packed schedule of vineyard tours and tastings and a chance to enjoy the English summer sporting season.
The trip was organised by The British Bottle Company in partnership with US importers Vine Street Imports and their portfolio of English wine producers: Hush Heath Estate, Bolney Wine Estate and Digby Fine English.
The aim of the visit was to offer distributors a chance to witness the rapidly evolving English wine scene at first hand by visiting the vineyards themselves and build on the strong support these wines have gained in the US market since their launch two years ago through Vine Street Imports. The tour also featured an opportunity to enjoy English sparkling wine in the quintessential surroundings of Henley Royal Regatta as guests of Digby Fine English, the official partner of Henley’s elite rowing club Leander.
The group included senior representatives from Texas, Florida, Arizona, Virginia and Maine, as well as a handful of Michelin-starred restaurants. Each earned their place via a competition based on sales of English sparkling wine; for several distributors this was their first ever visit to the UK.
The US represents a major target market for English wine exporters and and is already one of the category’s largest foreign markets.
