The WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) diploma graduation ceremony took place at the Guildhall in London on Monday 22nd January 2018 at The Guildhall in London. At this prestigious occasion graduates from all over the world are presented with their diploma certificates, awards and scholarships.
WineGB, through its patronage of the WSET, gives an annual award to a top scholar in the Diploma exams. This year Simon Robinson, Chairman of WineGB and Steven Spurrier, Honorary President of the WSET, presented the prize to Rhona Cullinane.
The WineGB scholarship prize aims to inform, educate and engage the winner in the wonderful world of wine production in the UK. It includes; free subscription to the Grape Press magazine for one year, invitation to the annual Trade and Press Tasting and annual conference, invitation to the prestigious Awards lunch ceremony and a mixed case of award winning English and Welsh wines.
Rhona will also choose an accompanied study visit to a winery or vineyard.
“I am honoured to be the 2018 recipient of WSET WineGB Award and fascinated to learn so much more about this dynamic and exciting region. I am really looking forward to meeting many of the producers over the coming year at tastings and events and hopefully in the vineyards too!” Said Rhona.
Rhona studied and lived in Italy and started her career in the wine trade with an Italian focused importer, Eurowine, where she worked both the on and off-trade. She then moved to Enotria for a number of years in Trade Marketing and Independent Retail projects.
“My interest in knowing more about the daily life of a wine grower convinced me to leave the large businesses behind. I began my own consultancy in 2015, starting with 1701 Franciacorta, a premium Traditional Method sparkling producer from the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, to develop their international presence. This family of producers has now grown and I have the absolute pleasure of seeking new and enthused importer partners around the world for several small quality Italian wineries.” Added Rhona.
